Etymology

From Latin ēnucleātus, perfect passive participle of ēnucleō (“to remove the kernel, stone, etc. from (a fruit, grape)”). Equivalent to enucleate +‎ -ion.

1. (surgery) The surgical removal of an intact organ, especially of the eye and of cysts and tumors.
2. (microbiology) The removal of the nuclear body of a cell.
