From Ancient Greek ἔφαψις (éphapsis, touching, caressing).

  1. (countable, neurology) A point of contact or significant electrical influence between neurons, other than at a synapse.
  2. (uncountable, neurology) Cross-stimulation of adjacent nerve fibers.
