English

Etymology

From ergo- + reflex.

Noun

ergoreflex (plural ergoreflexes)

  1. (physiology) The response, characterised by increase in ventilation, to increased exercise.
    • 2005, Margaret Turner-Warwick, Living Medicine: Recollections and Reflections:
As exercise proceeds, the working muscle signals to the brain, and generates a ventilatory response. In patients with heart failure, this 'ergoreflex' is much greater than normal.
