Etymology

Unadapted borrowing from Spanish escrúpulo, from Latin scrūpulus (scruple, nagging doubt, 124 uncia), from scrūpus (sharp stone, anxiety) + -ulus (-ule: forming diminutives). Doublet of scruple and escropulo.
