  1. (rail transport, UK) An open railway wagon without sides and roof, or with very low sides.
    Synonyms: (American) flatcar, flatbed, (British synonym) truck
    • 1944 January and February, “Light Railways in Derbyshire”, in Railway Magazine, page 25:
      Two flat wagons carrying tanks were also seen here.
    • 1946 March and April, “Notes and News: Train Watching in a P.O.W. Camp”, in Railway Magazine, page 117:
