From Middle High German herūz, herūʒ, harūz, from Old High German heraūz (out of here; forth), equivalent to her- (to or over here; hither, prefix implying movement) + aus (out). Compare hinaus (out from here) and daraus (out from there) and archaic English hereout (out of here).
