    Joe tied his horse to the hitching post before going into the bank.
  2. (slang) A main shelter at a recreation place (e.g. a campground) where people go to socialize, eat, and purchase small items.
    The two girls who were camping went to the hitching post to buy some hot dogs and buns for the wiener roast.
