mergist (plural mergists)

  1. Someone who generally favors merging.
    • 1965, The Education Digest, volume 31, page 19:
      The question is most often asked by the "mergists" — people who are lot unfriendly to the AFT, who would like to see the AFT and the hJEA's Department of Classroom Teachers merged into a unified organization, and who see the labor affiliation as a stumbling block.
