Etymology

From mwa (“to drink”) +‎ -etsa (“causative suffix for monosyllabic verbs”). Cognate with Tumbuka -mweska (“to cause someone to drink”) and Yao -mwesya (“to cause to drink”). Also cognate with Swahili -nywesha which comes from the main Proto-Bantu stem.
