overregularize (third-person singular simple present overregularizes, present participle overregularizing, simple past and past participle overregularized)

  1. (linguistics, intransitive) To apply (a rule of language) too widely.
    A child familiar with past tenses formed with "-ed" overregularizes by saying "goed" instead of "went".
