From Proto-Albanian *platśi-, from Proto-Indo-European *pleh₁k- (“to tear, rend”). Cognate to Lithuanian plė́šti (“to burst, crack”), Latvian plêst (“to tear”) and perhaps German platzen (“to blow, explode”).
