From Cantonese 衫褲衫裤 (saam1 fu3, “shirt (and) pants”).

samfu (plural samfus)

  1. A type of suit worn in China, consisting of a shirt with a high neckline bound down the middle with tassels, and trousers
    • 1973, Alvin Rabushka, Race and Politics in Urban Malaya, page 26:
      Female dress, for example, immediately establishes race: sarongs for Malays, cheongsams and samfus for Chinese, and saris for Indians.
