sunset clause (plural sunset clauses)

  1. (law) A provision of a law which says the law or something under it, as an agency or benefit established by it, will come to an end on a particular date or after a particular period of time.
    Synonym: sunset provision
    Antonym: sunrise clause
    A sunset clause in this act says the tax exemption will expire on the thirtieth day after the effective date of the act.
