third reading (plural third readings)

  1. In the UK and various other countries, the final presentation of a bill (proposed legislation) to a parliament or legislature, or chamber thereof, which takes place after the bill has passed through all its necessary prior stages. Following a debate, members vote on whether to pass the bill, which in the UK may then be sent for consideration by the other chamber or for Royal Assent.
