1. Markings that appear on the underside of something. Usually used to describe an animal.
   • 1812, British Zoology, volume 2, Wilkie and Robinson, page 145:

     Dr. Latham says, that the eggs are of a cinereous grey, whimsically marked with deep brownish black patches of irre gular sizes and shapes, besides some undermarkings of a dusky hue.
