Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *yalŋuz, *yalïŋuz, a derivation from Proto-Turkic *yalïŋ (lonely), see there for more cognates. Doublet of yalqız. Related to Azerbaijani yalın (naked, bare), as in ayaqyalın (barefoot).
