GNIS (angle, Geographic Names Information System, t.e. Geografi-noma Inform-sistemo) estas datumbazo entenanta nomajn kaj lokajn informojn pri pli ol du milionoj da nomoj de fizikaj kaj kulturaj trajtoj situantaj dise tra tuta Usono kaj ĝiaj eksterlandaj teritorioj. GNIS estas disvolvita de la Usona Geologia Esplor-instanco kunlabore kun la Usona Komisiono pri Geografiaj Nomoj (BGN) por antaŭenigi la normigadon de trajt-nomoj.

La datumbazo estas parto de sistemo, kiu inkluzivas nomojn en topografiaj mapoj kaj bibliografiajn citaĵojn. Ĝi citas la nomojn de libroj kaj historiaj mapoj, kiuj konfirmas la nomon de la trajto aŭ loko. Ankaŭ variantaj nomoj (alternativoj al oficialaj usonaj nomoj por iu trajto) registriĝas. La datumbazo neniam forviŝas datumon, "krom en kazoj de evidenta duobleco."[1]
GNIS ricevas proponojn pri novaj aŭ ŝanĝindaj nomoj por usonaj geografiaĵoj. La ĝenerala publiko povas proponi ŝanĝojn ĉe la retejo de GNIS, kaj povas legi la pravigojn kaj apogantojn de la proponoj.
