Pinsko etendiĝas sur ebenaĵo ĉe kunfluejo de 2 riveroj, laŭ ĉefvojo kaj fervojo Varsovio-Homel. Brest troviĝas 178 km.
La unua mencio okazis en 1097 en formo "Pinesk". La loknomo estas derivita de la rivero Pina. Baldaŭe ĝi estis sidloko de princlando. En 1239 la tataroj detruis la urbeton. En 1320 oni integrigis la lokon al Granda Duklando de Litovio, en 1521 same al Pollando. En 1581 Pinsko ricevis specialajn urbajn rajtojn, kiel sidloko de provinco. De 1633 la urbo havis specialan mezlernejon. En 1640 la kozakoj bruldetruis la urbon, multe da poloj kaj judoj mortis. Ok jarojn poste la rusoj (kaj en 1706 ankaŭ la svedoj) denove bruldetruis la urbon. En 1793 Rusio akiris la urbon. Dum la 1-a mondmilito la germanoj okupis ĝin en 1915, sed la nova Pollando akiris ĝin en 1920. En 1921 incendio okazis. En 1939 Sovetunio okupis la urbon, en 1941 la germanoj havis jam la urbon kaj ili murdis la judojn.
