La termino simpatio derivas el la greka (συμπάθεια, [sympatheia]), nome vorto komponita de συν πάθος kaj συμπαθος, laŭvorte, «kunsuferi», «trakti emocie». La solidareco kaj la empatio montritaj en tiu trajto kiu karakterizas kelkajn, estas manifestataj al unu aŭ pliaj personoj, kun emocioj kiaj la ĝojo, la sufero, la ploro aŭ la libido. La simpatio karakteriziĝas ankaŭ pro la agrableco kaj la sentiveco.
La solidareco naskiĝas kiam la sentoj aŭ emocioj de unu persono okazigas similajn sentojn en alia, per la kreo de animstato de kunhavita sento.
