O río Rato é un afluente do Miño que discorre polas aforas da cidade de Lugo.
Nace nas pozas das Gándaras[1]. Tras recibir o río Fervedoira pola súa marxe esquerda pasa a denominarse tamén como río da Chanca. Tres quilómetros máis abaixo recibe, tamén pola marxe esquerda, as augas do rego de Samai en forma de fervenza. Desemboca no Miño pola marxe esquerda, no caneiro da Tolda, ó pé da cidade de Lugo.[2]
O curso do río ten unha lonxitude de 8,5 km, se ben os primeiros 1.500 m non teñen caudal regular. Está canalizado a partir do colector hidráulico de San Lourenzo, entre os barrios de Albeiros e A Croa.
