音の強さ(英: sound intensity)は単位面積を通過する音波がもつ単位時間あたりの放射エネルギー量を示す物理量である[1]。音響インテンシティ(英: sound intensity)、音響エネルギー束密度(英: sound energy flux density)、音響パワー密度(英: sound power density)とも[1][2]。
媒質を揺らし空間を伝播していく音波はエネルギーをもつ。単位面積・単位時間あたりのエネルギー量が音の強さである。すなわち単位面積あたりに音波がなす仕事率(パワー)である。単位はW/m²。
音の強さのレベル
音の強さの大きさを、基準値との比の常用対数によって表現した量を、音の強さのレベル(英: sound intensity level)、あるいは音響インテンシティレベル(英: sound intensity level)という[3]。
単位はデシベル (dB)。
