유진 피터슨

유진 H. 피터슨(Eugene H. Peterson, 1932년 11월 6일 ~ 2018년 10월 22일)은 미국에서 태어난 목회자, 학자, 저자, 그리고 시인이다. 그는 30권 이상의 저서를 출판하였다. 대표적인 작품으로  복음주의 기독교출판협의회로부터 상을 받은 책 "The Message: The Bible in Contemporary Language^[1] (Navpress Publishing Group, 2002)" 이 성경을 풀어준 책이다.^[2]

개인생활

그는 1932년 11월 6일, 워싱턴주 이스트 스탠우드에서 태어나 몬태나주 칼리스펠에서 성장했다. 시애틀 퍼시픽 대학에서 학사 학위를, 뉴욕신학교에서 철학 학사 학위를, 존스 홉킨스 대학에서 히브리어를 전공하여 석사학위를 받은 뒤^[3]미국장로교단(PCUSA)에서 목사안수를 받았다. 또한 시애틀 퍼시픽대학에서 명예박사 학위를. 메시아대학에서 명예박사 학위를 받았다.^[4] 개신교 영성 신학을 이끌고 있는 대표적인 신학자이자 목회자. 목회자들의 목회자로 더 잘 알려져 있다. 캐나다 벤쿠버에 있는 리전트 대학(Regent College)에서 영성 신학을 가르쳤으며, 미국 메릴랜드 주에 있는 장로교회(Christ Our King Presbyterian Church)에서 30년 간 목회자로 섬겼다. 영성을 오늘의 언어와 이야기로 풀어내는 데 탁월하다.

신학적 논쟁들

• 동성애 인정으로 인하여 정통 기독교로부터 많은 비난을 받았다.
• 문제가 되었던 질문과 대답 기자가 '만약에'라는 말이 들어가있는 질문이었다. 만약에 동성결혼을 교인이 한다면 주례를 맡을 것인가? 라는 질문이었다.
• 범신론적 철학을 수용한 것에 대해 비판을 한다.^[5]
