വരൾച്ചയെ വരെ അതിജീവിക്കാൻ ശേഷിയുള്ള കടൽത്തീര വാസികളായ ചെറു ജീവികളാണ് സെസ്സിലിയ എന്ന ഗോത്രത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നത് . സമുദ്ര ജലം ഏതാനും തുള്ളികളായി മാത്രം എത്തുന്ന ഇടങ്ങളിൽ തീരെ ചെറിയ ജീവികളായ ഇവ ജീവിക്കുന്നു. ഇവ ആക്കോൺ ബാർണക്കിൾ (Acorn Barnacle) എന്ന പേരിലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. കൊഞ്ച്.ഞണ്ട് തുടങ്ങിയ ജീവികൾ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന ക്രസ്റ്റേഷ്യ-Crustacea എന്ന ജീവ വിഭാഗത്തിലെ അംഗങ്ങളാണ് ബാർണക്കിളുകൾ. പരന്ന തകിടുകൾ പോലെയുള്ള പുറന്തോടുള്ള ഈ ജീവികൾ പാറകൾ ,കപ്പലുകൾ , തിമിംഗിലം പോലെയുള്ള വലിയ ജീവികളുടെ ശരീരം എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ കാണപ്പെടുന്നു. പാറകളിൽ പറ്റിപ്പിടിച്ച് വളരെ ചെറിയ പുറന്തോടുകൾ ഇറുക്കി അടച്ച് , അവയ്ക്ക് ആവശ്യമായ അൽപം നനവ് വളരെ കാര്യക്ഷമമായി ഇവ സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
