തെക്ക് കിഴക്കൻ യൂറേഷ്യയാണ് കൊക്കേഷ്യ[1]. തെക്ക് തുർക്കിയും ഇറാനും, പടിഞ്ഞാറ് കരിങ്കടൽ, കിഴക്ക് കാസ്പിയൻ കടൽ, വടക്ക് റഷ്യ എന്നിവ അതിരായി വരുന്ന ദേശമാണിത്. കോക്കസസ് പർവത നിരയും താഴ്വരകളുമടങ്ങിയ ചരിത്രദേശമാണിത്. ജോർജിയ, ആർമീനിയ, അസർബയ്ജാൻ എന്നീ രാജ്യങ്ങളും റഷ്യയുടെ ചെച്നിയ, ദാഗസ്ഥാൻ, കാൽമിക്യ എന്നീ പ്രദേശങ്ങളും അബ്ഖാസിയ, നഗാർണോ-കാരബാഖ്, തെക്കൻ ഒസൈറ്റിയ എന്നീ സ്വയം പ്രഖ്യാപിത രാഷ്ട്രങ്ങളും വടക്കുകിഴക്കൻ തുർക്കിയും ചേർന്ന ദേശമാണിത്. ഗ്രീക്കു പുരാണപ്രകാരം ഭൂമിയെ താങ്ങി നിർത്തുന്ന തൂണുകളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് കോക്കസസ് പർവ്വതം.
