पूर्वी 'ढाका स्टेडियम' असे असलेले याचे नाव, शेख मुजिबुर रहमान यांच्याप्रती आदर प्रकट करण्याचे दृष्टीने बंगबंधू असे करण्यात आले. त्यांना बंगबंधू म्हणुन उल्लेखित असत. बांगलादेश येथील हे क्रमांक एकचे मैदान आहे.याची आसनक्षमता ४०,००० आहे. पूर्वी याची आसनक्षमता ३६,००० होती.
