၁၉၆၀ နှစ်များတွင် မက်ဆာချူးဆက် စက်မှုတက္ကသိုလ် ၊ AT&T Bell Labs နှင့် General Electric ကုမ္ပဏီတွေ ပူးပေါင်းပြီး GE-645 mainframe computer ပေါ်မှာ သုံးဖို့ Multics (Multiplexed Information and Computing Service) ဟုခေါ်သော ကွန်ပျူတာ စက်လည်ပတ်ရေးစနစ် တစ်ခုကို စတင်ပြီး သုတေသန လုပ်ခဲ့ကြတယ်။ အဲဒီ operating system ဟာ လုံခြုံရေးနဲ့ အခြား စွမ်းဆောင်ရည် အသစ်တွေ ပါဝင်အောင် ရည်ရွယ်ခဲ့တာပါ။
