Montpellier (Occitaans: Montpelhièr) is een Zuid-Franse stad, prefectuur van het departement Hérault en (tot 2016) van de vroegere regio Languedoc-Roussillon (nu in Occitanie). De stad ligt in een stedelijk gebied met 540.000 inwoners in 2009, daarvan is Montpellier de belangrijkste stad. Montpellier zelf had 299.096[1] inwoners op 1 januari 2020, waarvan circa 55.000 studenten.
