Serviusmuren ( Latin: Murus Servii Tullii) , var Romas republikanske mur, som var oppkalt etter Servius Tullius.[1][2] Serviusmuren var en bymur og forsvarsmur, som ble bygd rundt Roma i 300-tallet f. Kr.[3]
Serviusmuren består fortrinnsvis av grå tuff.[2] Den var 3,6 m tykk, over 10 meter høy, 11 km lang, og hadde mer enn et dusin porter. Muren ble bygget i flere ulike steintyper, hovedsakelig tuff.[4] Millioner av steinblokker ble fraktet fra steinbruddene i Veii tolv km unna, etter at romerne hadde erobret og ødelagt denne byen. Selve konstruksjonen skjedde i regi av greske spesialister fra Syrakus, som har satt sine merker i tuffblokkene den er bygd av. Dette viser at det på den tid må ha hersket fred mellom Latium-regionen der Roma lå, og de greske koloniene i Sør-Italia.[5]
Serviusmuren skal være den første bymuren som helt omsluttet de syv høydene i Roma, Pomerium. Fra eldre tid er det funnet rester av en mur som er omtalt i legenden om Romulus og Remus, og som skal ha omsluttet Palatinhøyden, Roma Romulea (= Romulus' by). Rester av en slik mur er funnet under republikanske hus som brant i 64 e.Kr., under det som i dag er Trajans marked.[6] Det tok ikke lang tid før Roma vokset ut over grensene til Serviusmuren.[7] Likevel var Serviusmuren den bymuren, som beskyttede Roma i 800 år.[8]
Serviusmuren innbefattet også en agger (= jordvoll) bak muren og en fossa (= vollgrav) foran muren på strekningen mellom Esquinal- og Viminalhøyden, altså det som nå er plassen foran Stazione Termini. Det forekom da heller ingen flere forsøk på å invadere Roma de neste 700 år, og da hadde byen fått nye murer.
Serviusmuren er oppkalt etter den sjette romerske kongen Servius Tullius (500-tallet f.Kr.).[9] Selv om muren etter sigende er grunnlagt på 500-tallet f. Kr., er den mest trolig bygd etter 390 f.Kr. for å hindre en gjentakelse av at galliske stammer skulle plyndre Roma, slik de gjorde etter slaget ved Allia.
Serviusmuren er bare bevart i fragmenter av den opprinnelige muren.[2] Like til høyre for hovedjernbanestasjonen Stazione Termini ligger hundre meter av muren intakt.
