Høgskolen i Bergen (HiB) ble etablert 1. august 1994 og hadde omkring 7700 studenter og 750 ansatte. Den ble en del av Høgskulen på Vestlandet fra 1. januar 2017.

Høgskolen tilbød fag- og profesjonsstudier innen helse- og sosialfag, ingeniør- og økonomisk-administrativ utdanning, musikkutdanning og lærerutdanning. Disse kunne tas i varierende lengder fra halvårsenheter til bachelor-, master- og enkelte doktorgradstudier, samt en rekke kurs-, etter- og videreutdanninger.
Høgskolen hadde som mål å være den viktigste profesjonshøgskolen på Vestlandet. Høgskolen var lokalisert på Campus Kronstad og i Møllendalsveien.
Enkelte utdanningsprogram og skoler som senere ble Høgskulen i Bergen har røtter tilbake til 1800- og begynnelsen av 1900-tallet. I mai 2011 feiret jordmorutdanningen ved Høgskolen i Bergen 150 år. Utdanningen startet ved Fødselsstiftelsen i Bergen i 1861 og har hatt flere navn, blant annet Statens jordmorskole i Bergen og Bergen jordmorhøgskole.
Høgskolen var en av 24 statlige høgskoler i Norge og var et resultat av at seks statlige høgskoler i Bergen ble slått sammen som en del av Høgskolereformen i 1994.
Flere skoler og utdanninger ble en del av Høgskolen i Bergen i 1994.[2]
Høgskolen i Bergen, Høgskolen Stord/Haugesund og Høgskulen i Sogn og Fjordane gikk i 2016 inn for å slå seg sammen.[4] Den sammenslåtte Høgskolen på Vestlandet ble opprettet 1. januar 2017.[5]
Høgskolens tre avdelinger med underliggende institutter var:
Høsten 2014 flyttet HiB inn i nytt bygg i Inndalsveien 28 på Kronstad, Campus Kronstad. Høgskolen hadde siden starten i 1994 arbeidet for å få nybygg. I mangel av et stort nok hovedbygg var undervisningen spredt på en rekke bygg omkring i Bergen. Skolen ble oppført på det tidligere verkstedsområdet til NSB. Flere eldre bygg ble bevart og ble en del av det nye høyskoleanlegget. Bygget er på 51.000 kvadratmeter. Mellom 5000 og 6000 studenter fikk sin undervisning på Campus Kronstad, mens resten av studentene og 200 ansatte holdt til i lokalene som Høgskolen leiet i Møllendalsveien. HiB omfattet også Dykkerutdanningen, som holdt til i Skålevikveien i Loddefjord, og studium i undervannsteknologi på Straume på Sotra, i Florø og i Kristiansund.[6]
