Heinrich-Heine-Universität i Düsseldorf er oppstått fra universitetsklinikken i byen og er fremdeles nært forbundet med denne. Det ble etablert i 1966 og fikk sitt nåværende navn i 1970-årene etter den tyske forfatteren Heinrich Heine.
