Władysław Stanisław Reymont (1867–1925) var en forfatter fra Polen som i 1924 ble tildelt Nobelprisen i litteratur. Blant hans verker er Chłopi («Bøndene»), en firebinds skildring av livet på den polske landsbygden, utgitt 1904–1909.

Faren var kirkeorganist og moren assistent for soknepresten. Barndommen framstår i Reymonts selvbiografiske tekster som svært dyster.[trenger referanse] Men så fort han kom til evne og anledning leste han, alt fra eventyrromaner av Walter Scott til klassisk polsk litteratur.[trenger referanse]
Som ung voksen forlot han hjemmet og levde i mange år et ekstremt fattig og ensomt liv da han reiste rundt i landet og arbeidet som jordbruker, skuespiller og tjenestemann ved jernbanen. Han brøt også kontakten med familien som ikke gav ham noen støtte eller forstod seg på ham.[trenger referanse]
I 1896 fikk han sin første bok utgitt - romanen Komedjantka («Skuespillerinnen»). Raymont regnes som en av Polens ledende prosaister innenfor realismen.[13] Flere av verkene fremholder klart et samfunnskritisk standpunkt. I Det lovede land (1898) forteller han om byen Łódź i industrialiseringens epoke med et persongalleri av nyrike fabrikanter og utnyttede arbeidere.[14] Reymont hørte til dikterkretsen Młoda Polska («Det unge Polen»).[15]
Hans store verk er den episke bonderomanen Chłopi (1904-09, «Bøndene»), som i 1924 gav ham nobelprisen i litteratur.[16][17] Romansuiten er fordelt på fire bind etter de fire årstider, med skildringer av polsk landsbyliv på slutten av 1800-tallet og begynnelsen av 1900-tallet. Chłopi er grunnlaget for animasjonsfilmen Bøndene (2023) av Dorota Kobiela og Hugh Welchman.[18]
