Økonomisk institutt er et institutt ved Det samfunnsvitenskapelige fakultet ved Universitetet i Oslo. Instituttet ble opprettet av Ragnar Frisch på 1930-tallet, og hørte opprinnelig under Det juridiske fakultet.
Instituttet har fostret to nobelprisvinnere: Frisch og Trygve Haavelmo.
Instituttet var opprinnelig et forskningsinstitutt, grunnlagt i 1932 av professor Ragnar Frisch, og hadde den gang navnet Økonomisk institutt. Faget var opprinnelig under Det juridiske fakultet, og studentene kunne den gang avlegge eksamen i «statsøkonomi». I 1934 cand.oecon.-graden innført. Fra 1966 ble faget underlagt SV-fakultetet.
I 2000 endret instituttet navn fra Sosialøkonomisk institutt til Økonomisk institutt.
Økonomisk institutt holder til i 10., 11. og 12. etasje i Eilert Sundts hus på Blindern.
