Messina (Italian: Provincia di Messina; Sicilian: Pruvincia di Missina) is a province in the autonomous island region o Sicily in Italy. Its caipital is the ceety o Messina.

It haes an aurie o 3,247 km² (12.6% o total o the island), an a total population o 662,450 (2001, 13% o the total population o Sicily). There are 108 comuni (singular: comune) in the province Archived 2007-08-07 at the Wayback Machine, see Comuni o the Province o Messina.
The province includes the Aeolian Islands, aw pairt o the comune o Lipari (wi the exception o Salina). The territory is lairgely muntainous, wi the exception o alluvional plain at the mooths o the various rivers. The lairgest plain is that in the aurie atween Milazzo an Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, which, thegither wi Messina, form a metropolitan aurie o some 500,000 inhabitants, ane o the lairgest in soothren Italy. Hintle o the population is concentratit in the coastal aurie, efter the hill touns hae been lairgely abandoned frae the 19t century.
The main muntain ridges are the Peloritani (up tae 1300 m) an the Nebrodi (up tae 1,900 m) muntains, which are includit in a Regional Natural Reserve.
Rivers o the province include the Alcantara an the Pollina, which forms the border wi the province o Palermo at wast.
