The first mention o Sant'Oreste is made bi Benedict o Soratte (Benedetto del Soratte) in his Chronicon in 747 AD, in whilk he mentions Curtis Sancii Heristi.[2] Ane source states that the toponym derives frae the faimily o the Aristi or Edisti. A memmer o this faimily, Saunt Orestes (Edistus, Sant'Edisto, Sant'Oreste) wis martyred for his faith aroond 68 AD. Wi linguistic transmogrification, the name wis chynged frae Sanctus Edistus tae Sanctus Heristus, Santo Resto, San Tresto, Sant'Oreste.[2]
