Sir Philip St. John Basil Rathbone, KBE, MC, Kt (13. jun 1892 – 21. jul 1967) bio je britanski glumac najpoznatiji po tumačenju Sherlocka Holmesa u popularnoj seriji holivudskih filmova 1940-ih, kao i niza sofisticiranih negativaca u pustolovnim filmovima kao što su The Mark of Zorro, Captain Blood i The Adventures of Robin Hood.

Za vrijeme prvog svjetskog rata se priključio britanskoj Londonskoj škotskoj pukovniji, gdje je služio zajedno sa svojim budućim kolegama kao što su Claude Rains, Herbert Marshall i Ronald Colman. Poslije je premješten Liverpulsku škotsku pukovniju gdje je dobio čin poručnika i mjesto obavještajnog oficira. Tamo se istakao svojim talentom za kamuflažu pomoću koga je u ničijoj zemlji izviđao njemačke položaje. Za svoju hrabrost je odlikovan Vojnim križem, a rat završio u činu kapetana. Njegov mlađi brat John je poginuo u ratu.

Godine 1914. se oženio za Ethel Marion Foreman, s kome je imao sina Rodiona Rathbonea (1915 - 1996). Od nje se razveo 1926. i imao kraću vezu s glumicom Evom La Gallienne. Godine 1927. se oženio za spisateljicu Ouida Bergère, s kojom je imao posvojenu kćer Cynthiu Rathbone (1939 - 1969).
