Elsa Lanchester

Elsa Sullivan Lanchester (28. oktobar 1902 – 26. decembar 1986) bila je engleska glumica poznata po dugoj i uspješnoj filmskoj i televizijskoj karijeri u SAD, kao i plodnoj suradnji sa suprugom Charlesom Laughtonom.

Odrasla je u boemskoj porodici, a kao djevojčica nakratko studirala balet u Parizu kod Isadore Duncan. Nakon toga je nastupala u kazalištu i vodviljima, prije nego što je 1927. i upoznala glumca Charlesa Laughtona, za koga se udala dvije godine kasnije. Njih dvoje će nakon toga često nastupati zajedno, uključujući film The Private Life of Henry VIII 1933. godine, gdje je tumačila lik Ane Klevske. Kada se Laughton preselio u Hollywood, sa sobom je doveo Elsu i pomogao joj da dobije naslovnu ulogu u filmu Frankensteinova nevjesta 1935. godine. Sa svojim mužem je zajedno nastupila i u filmu Svjedok optužbe kada su oboje dobili nominacije za Oscar.

Godine 1983. je objavila autobiografsku knjigu u kojoj je tvrdila da joj je muž priznao svoju homoseksualnost, nakon čega je odlučila da ostane živjeti s njim, ali bez djece.
