Julian Patrick Barnes (Leicester, 19.1. 1946.-) je suvremeni engelski pisac. Tri puta su mu romani bili nominirani za Bookerovu nagradu (Flaubert's Parrot (1984), England, England (1998), and Arthur & George (2005)). Pisao je krimi-romane pod pseudonimom Dan Kavanagh.

Osobni život
Nakon što se obrazovao u Školi City of London i oksfordskom Merton Collegeu, radio je kao leksikograf za Oxford English Dictionary. Nakon toga je radio kao književni urednik i filmski kritičar. Danas se stalno bavi pisanjem. Njegov brat Jonathan Barnes je filozof specijaliziran za antičku filozofiju.
Njegova žena, Pat Kavanagh, koja je bila je književni agent, umrla je 20. oktobra 2008. od posledica tumora na mozgu.
