<p>Armitage was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia and Pacific Affairs (1981<span>–</span>1983) and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs (1983<span>–</span>1989) during the <a href="/simple/Ronald_Reagan" title="Ronald Reagan" class="wl">Ronald Reagan</a> presidency. </p>

<p>He was <a href="/simple/United_States_Deputy_Secretary_of_State" title="United States Deputy Secretary of State" class="wl">Deputy Secretary of State</a> from March 2001 to February 2005 during the <a href="/simple/George_W._Bush" title="George W. Bush" class="wl">George W. <p>Armitage is known for his role in <span class="new">Plame affair</span>. Richard Lee Armitage is an American Republican politician. He worked as an aide to Senator Bob Dole. Armitage was Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for East Asia and Pacific Affairs and Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs during the Ronald Reagan presidency.
