- Marcus Aemilius Lepidus, consul and leader of the democratic party, is defeated by Quintus Lutatius Catulus outside Rome.
- Pompeius marches to Spain to join with Quintus Metellus Pius. They try to stop the revolt of Quintus Sertorius, but do not succeed.
