Afsluitdijk is a large dam in the Netherlands. It is 32 km (20 mi) long. The dam separates the IJsselmeer lake from the Wadden Sea. It was built between 1927 and 1932. The dam was built because of floods that affected the country's low-lying lands. It also serves as a road between Friesland and North Holland provinces. Afsluitdijk has become a popular tourist destination. People go there for its scenic beauty, recreational opportunities, and historical importance.
