Area codes 813 and 656 are telephone area codes in the North American Numbering Plan (NANP) serving the state of Florida in the United States. Area code 813 covers the city of Tampa and its surrounding areas in Hillsborough County. It was established in 1953. It originally covered a much larger area, including parts of central Florida. Due to population growth and increased demand for phone numbers, the area code was split several times. It was split by 941 in 1995, and by 727 in 1999. It was overlaid by 656 on February 22, 2022.
