History

It was founded in 1946 by Sir Ove Arup. The company, and its associated practices in Ireland, Africa and Asia, now has over 7,000 staff based in 73 offices in 32 countries. It has projects in over 160 countries. Between 2004 and 2005, Arup had an annual profit of over £400 million (US$700 million).

Activities

It is best known for its engineering design work. Projects it has helped with include the Sydney Opera House, the Pompidou Centre, the Oresund Bridge, the Seattle Library, the new De Young Museum, the HSBC headquarters in Hong Kong, the Channel Tunnel Rail Link and the London Millennium Bridge.
