Background

His candidacy for the Republican nomination for President of the United States in the 2016 election comes after years of speculation concerning a possible candidacy following the 2012 election. Jindal is the first Indian American and third Asian American to run for President of the United States.^[2]

On November 17, 2015, Jindal officially suspended his presidential campaign, saying "this is not my time".^[3]

Jindal officially launched his campaign for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination on June 24, 2015 with an announcement via Twitter,^[4] ahead of a planned formal announcement in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner later that day.
