Cláudio Hummes, OFM (Portuguese pronunciation: [ˈklawdʒu ˈʁum(i)s]; born Auri Alfonso Hummes; 8 August 1934 – 4 July 2022) was a Brazilian prelate of the Catholic Church. He was prefect of the Congregation for the Clergy from 2006 to 2010. He was the Archbishop of Fortaleza from 1996 to 1998 and Archbishop of São Paulo from 1998 to 2006. He became a cardinal in 2001.
Hummes died on 4 July 2022 in São Paulo, Brazil from lung cancer.[1] He was 87.[2]
