The Meskwaki (sometimes spelled Mesquaki) are a Native American people. They are often called the Fox tribe. They are related to the Sauk people of the same language family. In the Meskwaki language, the Meskwaki call themselves Meshkwahkihaki. This means "the Red-Earths". This is related to their creation story.[1] Historically they lived in the Great Lakes region. They are part of the Northeast Woodlands.
