Giuseppe Garibaldi was an Italian soldier who is best known for the unification of Italy.

Garibaldi led the navy of the separatist Riograndense Republic, in southern Brazil, until it was defeated in 1839. He escaped and led the navy of Uruguay to victory.
Later, inspired by Giuseppe Mazzini, he fought for Italian unification. He led a group, called the Red Shirts, through the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies in 1860 to bring different kingdoms in Italy together.
