Horst Ludwig Georg Erich Wessel (9 October 1907-23 February 1930) was a member of the SA, of the National Socialist German Worker’s Party from 1926-1930. In 1930, he was killed by a communist. As he had written the Horst Wessel-Lied, the party made him into a martyr and hero. Horst Wessel was born in 9 October 1907 in the city of Bielefeld in the Kingdom of Prussia in the German Empire (now ; North Rhine-Westphalia). He joined the National Socialist (Nazi Party) in 1926 at the age of 19 he later became Sturmfuhrer of the SA the same year. In February 1930 he was killed by the Communist Party of Germany in Berlin (aged ; 22).
