Jacques Parizeau

Jacques Parizeau, GOQ, (French pronunciation: ​[ʒɑk parizo]; August 9, 1930 – June 1, 2015) was a Canadian economist and noted Quebec sovereigntist. He was born in Montreal. He was the 26th Premier of the province of Quebec from September 26, 1994, to January 29, 1996.^[1] He became a central figure alongside Lucien Bouchard for the "Yes" side in the 1995 Quebec referendum for the secession of Quebec from Canada. The citizens once again voted to stay in Canada. Jacques Parizeau quit as Premier of Quebec and as leader of the Parti Québécois in 1996 after the referendum failed.^[2]
