Margins

In typesetting, the page margins (with header and footer) are the borders of the page outside of the regular text to be shown.

There are 4 main margins:

• top margin (or: header) - the top (upper) border of the page
• bottom margin (or: footer) - the lower border of the page
• left margin - the lefthand-side border of the page
• right margin - the righthand-side border of the page

Other special margins can be used, beyond the typical 4, to provide additional margin settings on a page.

In computer CSS styles

For webpages (such as on the Internet), the margins can be set by using CSS style sheet directives, such as:

• style="margins: 0.6em 0.7em 0.4em 0.7em" for margins: top, right, bottom & left.
• style="margin-top: 0.6em" to set just the top margin.
• style="margin-left: 0.7em" to set the left margin.
• style="margin-right: 0.7em" to set the right margin.
• style="margin-bottom: 0.4em" for the bottom margin.

Each page, and each image or formatted table on a page, can have the 4 margins set, separately.
