Nurmes is a city in North Karelia, Finland. As of January 2014, almost 8,200 people lived there. Nearby municipalities are Juuka, Kuhmo, Lieksa, Rautavaara, Sotkamo and Valtimo. Since 2020, Valtimo was merged with the town of Nurmes.
